- I recently blogged about the books I read in August and September as we focus on illustration, print concepts, and characters. As October rolls around we focus on setting and story elements and I wanted to share some of my FAVORITE picture books I use to teach . The 57 Bus explores race, class, gender, incarceration, and details life from two very different parts of Oakland, California, and two very different families. Sasha is a white straight-A student at a small private school in Berkeley and is agender, meaning they do not identify as male or female.
Kids can enjoy making this book along side you or you can make it and give it to them as a learning tool. Either way, it is exciting! This activity is a super exciting way to help teach children about each planet and a few facts about them. Teachers can use storybooks to complement an English language course or as the main teaching resource. Storybooks can act as a springboard for a wide variety of activities to develop children’s English language skills and bring other areas of the curriculum to life, through the theme or content of the book.
A rookie mistake many persons teaching English to complete beginners make is assuming that the students have understood the lesson or classroom instructions. In your first lesson for beginners, adults or kids, your students may not be accustomed to the Western way of schooling where students raise their hands if they don’t understand.
