I've also got the Comprehensive Russian Grammar and, like you, I found it somewhat dry. I found Schaum's to be easier to get on with but, like the other book, it really is more of a reference book for additional study rather than a primary book to learn Russian from scratch.   This book is an excellent reference for Russian grammar due to it's short and concise form. Clear examples are included with most topics which also add value. The only thing this book is lacking is an index (but it does have a table of contents).Cited by: 6.

Designed to meet the needs of any student of Russian, from the complete beginner through to the intermediate and advanced learner, this is an easy-to-use reference grammar with exercises and answers. It is arranged in double-page-spread units, with grammar explanations on the left-hand page and exercises to practise and check understanding on the facing right-hand page. Developing on the success of his widely-acclaimed textbook, A Comprehensive Russian Grammar d, Terence Wade now provides a workbook for English-speaking students of Russian. The book is designed to be used both as a companion volume to the reference grammar, and independently.
